Prebiotic Fiber Supplement Decreases Bad Colon Bacteria

Printable Version | Email

The colon is like a huge reservoir filled with large numbers of bacteria.  Most of these bacteria are our friends and provide many health benefits when they grow and multiply in a vigorous manner.

However, there are bacteria in our colon just waiting to take up residence there that we would rather not have. These bacteria can cause infection within the bowel wall, can produce toxins that damage the bowel or can even escape the colon and enter the blood stream where considerable damage can occur.

There is no surefire way to prevent bad bacteria from entering the body.  But we know that the colon acts like a contained tube, and when certain beneficial bacteria grow and flourish, they occupy a lot of space within the colon and prevent bad bacteria from growing. This happens when prebiotic plant fibers are ingested. These fibers feed and nourish the good bacteria within the colon and thereby derease the bad, nasty bacteria.

These beneficial bacteria also tend to produce short-chain-fatty-acids when they are healthy and thriving. These substances reduce the pH level of the colon, creating an environment that is unfriendly to alkaline-loving bad bacteria.

Prebiotic plant fibers occur in a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains as well as the inulin and oligofructose in our Prebiotin™ formula.
