Prebiotin™ Decreases Flatus Smell

Printable Version  |  Email

No one has ever died from the malodorous smell of flatus, despite the jokes that, indeed, this could or even has occurred. The foul smell of flatus comes from the tiny amount of sulfide gases that are produced in the colon. 99% of all the other gases are odorless.

The bacteria that make these sulfide gases are of a particular type. They do not like an acid environment. Rather, they grow best when you ingest lots of sulfur in food and beverages and when their surroundings are neutral – not acid nor alkaline.

Prebiotic plant fibers vigorously promote bacteria in the colon which, in turn, make certain acid products, short chain fatty acids, that amazingly are required and used by the cells that line the colon for their own health. However, these acid products also inhibit the growth of the sulfide gas producing bacteria. So while the amount of flatus may not change, the malodorous smell will decrease or disappear. Prebiotic plant fibers as in Prebiotin™ cause this to happen.
